Safeguarding vulnerable children is one of the most important responsibilities of any society.   In the UK, since the murder of Baby Peter, the number of children taken into care has risen substantially.   Meanwhile the number of adoptions is at its lowest for a decade.   In the light of that the Government has issued an Action Plan for Adoption.   In his introduction to this document Michael Gove, who was himself adopted as a baby, sets out a list of objectives one of which is to develop a “national Gateway to adoption”To consider and discuss that, to tease out the pros and cons of adoption as well as the challenges inherent in speeding up the process, Loughborough CWO will be hosting an Adoption Forum on 15 June.   Whilst we would particularly like to attract anyone who has experience of, or works within the adoption process, it is open to anyone who is interested in improving the welfare of those children who, for whatever reason, cannot remain with their birth parents.   Initial details of the Forum are outlined below.
