Loughborough Conservatives were delighted to welcome Secretary of State for Health, Rt Hon Andrew Lansley MP, as the guest speaker at their Annual Dinner on Friday night. Held at the Link Hotel, Loughborough and attended by over 100 people the evening was a great success. The audience included local Conservative members and supporters, local business people, local health professionals and councillors. It was a chance to celebrate recent election successes as well as hearing about an important Coalition Government policy.
Mr Lansley spoke about both the record of the Coalition Government generally during their first year in office and, in particular, his firm conviction that changes need to be made in the NHS to ensure that outcomes for patients are the best they can be, patients are involved in their care and all health professionals are able to get on with their jobs as unnecessary bureaucracy is cut. Responding to his speech Loughborough MP, Nicky Morgan, said that Mr Lansley was passionate about the NHS having spent a number of years as Shadow Health Secretary. She added that Mr Lansley was also a fairly frequent visitor to Loughborough having, since 2004, visited Loughborough’s walk-in centre with her as well as meeting local GPs and visiting Rainbows Childrens Hospice with David Cameron in December 2009.
