Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan has welcomed the announcement of new funding to help the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust be ready for any additional demand on services that might occur this winter.
The Trust, which covers the Loughborough area, is receiving a £10m boost to the A&E department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary which will ensure it can provide a good service to everyone that needs it this Christmas.
This comes in addition to a long term plan by the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to deal with the pressures on A&E such as having a named GP accountable for care, investment in new technology to ensure patient records are shared between hospitals and family doctors and more money for social care.
Commenting Nicky said:
‘For the hardworking NHS staff who serve my constituents this extra money will be a welcome boost this winter, when A&E departments come under most pressure.
‘I thank the Health Secretary for this investment – one of the largest in the country. It is recognition of the need to ensure our A&E department continues to work efficiently over the winter period ’
