Following the Borough Council elections on Thursday May 5th the Conservatives have retained control of Charnwood Borough Council. With all the results declared the Conservatives have 33 seats, Labour 16 seats, Lib Dems 1 seat, Independent 1 seat and BNP 1 seat.
Cllr Pauline Ranson, Chairman of the Conservative Group said, "This result is a tribute to the hard work of the Conservative administration in Charnwood over the past four years. I would like to thank the electors for giving us a mandate to continue to run Charnwood in an efficient and effective way. We now look forward to implementing our manifesto."
A new Leader and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group will be elected on Monday night after the former Leader, Mike Preston, and Deputy Leader, John Bush, retired.
The electors in Charnwood also overwhelmingly backed the No to AV with 38,902 No votes and 16,114 yes votes.
