‘More must be done to help pensioners in this constituency’ says Nicky

Nicky Morgan, prospective Conservative MP for Loughborough, has spoken out about the unfair treatment of pensioners in the Loughborough constituency after new Government figures successfully highlight the extent of the difficulties they face.

Nicky has backed leader, David Cameron, in his plight to make pensions ‘fair and affordable’. With 20 per cent of pensioners, 3, 440 people,  in the Loughborough constituency claiming state pension it is clear that changes made in this area would improve life considerably for those struggling to get by in this area. ‘We are the party of change, we want to change this country for the better and we are the only party that is both willing and able to help those most in need’ said Nicky Morgan.
The suffering of pensioners during the winter is of particular concern to Nicky Morgan. ‘There have been some horrific stories of pensioners having to sleep during daylight hours instead of the night-time because energy is slightly cheaper in the twighlight hours; the Government is not providing enough support to those on pensions in this country and we are all suffering because of this’ says Nicky Morgan. County Councillor for Quorn and Barrow-Upon-Soar, Tony Kershaw, is a dedicated member of Nicky's team and he too has become concerned about this issue because of the stories that he is being told, when campaigning for Nicky across the constituency. 'Many of those drawing a pension in this constituency are really struggling to make ends meet at the moment and they feel that the Government is simply not catering for their needs', said Cllr Kershaw. It has been revealed that there was an average of 46 winter deaths in this constituency between 2003 and 2008 but this winter has been particularly harsh and one of the coldest in 30 years. ‘What kind of Government do we have when people are left to freeze to death once they reach a ‘certain age’?’ Nicky Morgan has asked.
According to the All-Party Parliamentary Warm Homes Group ‘the current Government has initiated significant investment in a number of heating and insulation programmes intended to address fuel poverty. But the ambitions of these policy instruments; the structure of existing programmes; and the current levels of funding are insufficient to the task of eradicating fuel poverty. Major changes are required if we are to achieve the objective of ensuring that all homes are adequately and affordably heated. Nicky will become a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Warm Homes Group to show her support for this cause and she is determined that to do something to change this situation for the better if elected as Loughborough’s next Conservative MP.
